Tiger is the largest of 4 big cats and belongs to Felidae family. It can be easily found in Southern and eastern Asia. Beyond doubt, a tiger is a mammal and in all there are 5 species; Siberian, South China, Indochinese, Sumatran and Bengal Tiger. They are generally found in topical and deciduous forests. They normally feed on cattle, wild deer, and pigs.

Male tigers are known as tigers while female is called she-tiger and the kids are called cubs. They are solitary and territorial animals and there estimated population is below 8000. They are also put under endangered species. Other species of tigers that have extinct forever are Caspian, Javan and Bali tiger. Amazingly, every tiger in the entire population has a unique pattern of stripes that is unmatched, much like the finger prints and DNA of humans.

The speed of tiger can be compared to an arrow, from which the word tiger is derived. Probably this is the reason while it is so difficult to catch one. On an average, a hunter catches one tiger after a minimum of 20 attempts. They have been a part of this world from more than 2 million years now. The oldest fossils were recovered in many parts of China and they were dated back to 2 million years.

One more fascinating thing about tigers is that they swim excellently and can be found relaxing in streams, ponds or rivers. One more thing to remember about these animals is that they are definite human killers and no other cat has killer more number of humans than this one.
